Lolla '08

I'm in a pretty bad mood. I'm sick, tired, had to watch Sex and the City- ok, really quick. I don't get the undying affection that girls have for Sarah Jessica Parker. Am I missing something? I must be, because to every girl I know she is just the bees knees, can do no wrong, wonder woman. I'm going to generalize to the extreme here but I don't think I've ever heard one negative comment about her from a female. They use words like 'adorable' and tell me how great her fashion sense is...I don't know. I think I'm just way out of my element.

Anyways, so yeah I'm cranky. You know when you are cranky, it's one of those days where the chemistry in your brain just isn't mixing agreeably and you kind of have this...nagging sensation in your head that you can't explain? Well what I absolutely hate the most about those days is that someone is bound to notice and say something along the lines of, "jeez, you're cranky." I hate that. what can you say to that? nothing. i mean, they're right but them pointing it out makes you want to smack them. 'Really? I am!?' Maybe they have to say it. Maybe them bringing attention to the fact is one of the initial steps of conquering it.

To deal with my moody state I did some mindless web surfing and eventually arrived at the lollapalooza site to see the line up. I gotta admit, I think it's impressive. Here's the bands I would want to see, setting aside any conflicts in the schedule and putting out of mind where I'll find $200 for a ticket.
-Radiohead
-Rage Against the Machine...reunited
-Wilco
-the black keys fo' sho
-Sharon Jones & the dap-kings
-Explosions
-Dr. Dog
-the octopus project
-lupe fiasco

i look into it some more and possibly update it later. Right now i just looked at the clock and realized i have to wake up for work in 5 hours. shitballs.

buonanotte

Tucker

Meet Tuck:

People watching...or dog watching?

i love him and well, he loves me. It works out kinda nice like that

da dada daaaa mac 'n cheese to the rescue!

ouch. i'm hurting. i'm hung over pretty good. Last night we had a party at the girls' place. The girls (in case you're unfamiliar) are my closest friends sabrina, michelle and allison. They're one half of the people i hang out with. There's the girls and then there's me and my roommates, and I'm sure the girls refer to as 'the boys'. So in my social world we got the girls and boys, three apiece. but of course i know more than 6 people, everyone else is like a 2nd-tier or 3rd-tier friend, which shouldn't make anyone feel less significant. Everyone knows that those 2nd or 3rd groups of friends are critical in many cases like for parties, or the occasional hangout or so you don't end up going insane and killing the 1st-tiers. wow, i just rambled on.

i just made mac 'n cheese. Trader Joe's brand. You make it in the oven and its sooo good. I took a picture:
mmmm. notice the different shades of yellow. in my opinion the darker the better.

i'm gonna go eat this. maybe after i eat something the little drummer inside my head will stop abusing the bass drum.

a little ditty about doyle

doyle thinks i love myself. he won't admit he loves himself. but he also wishes he was made of butter. like a butter person. a slippery butter person. one capable of buttering pancakes or toast or waffles or an english muffin if one really wishes. but never bagel. its made for cream cheese.
but really, doyle is just full of shit. glorious shit, but shit none the less. he sips on his 7up can (with brandy) like he's the queen bee.

David Rex
Current mood: okay

ok, i have to admit it: I have thought of myself as one of the smartest people alive before. Call it arrogance, confidence, stupidity, or cradduck-esque, but i think i just might be. Of course, I'm not claiming to be an expert in conventional wisdom such as math, science and literature. I lose in that regard to most above-average intelligent people. What i am claiming to be a master of is conceptualizing and out-of-the-box-thinking. You see, there are times when i think of the most random but amazing things. Like my theory that personality, health or emotional traits are actually linked to meaningless physical characteristics. example: i enjoy my sense of humor solely because my second toe is longer than my big toe on my right foot. Scientists have it all wrong, lung cancer is not actually caused by an excessive amount of smoking, but rather an excessive amount of plaque build-up on the back of one's second bicuspid. The problem is science's death-grip on the notion of cause and effect. oh yes, syphilis must be contracted through sexual contact. Not true, it is the result of the angle at which the bottom of your earlobes meet the tip of your nose, if a line was drawn from the ears down the back of the body between the legs and back up to the nose.

Another arguement which challenges my authority as the smartest person alive is my lack of proof for these claims. I have a very simple answer to that. The shape that my left knuckle makes indicates that I am very bad at remembering things. I have even pondered some sort of attention disorder. My mind is usually racing by with a plethora of thoughts and ideas. My problem either lies in the curvature of my right heel or the paucity of freckles in a 3cm by 3cm square on my lower back but whichever it is, I can never grasp onto these ideas long enough to remember them or develop them further. I have been known, by myself, to have said, "I am the most brilliant contemporary thinker but the worst ever communicator." As I send the ideas down from my head to be processed and redistributed as words or text, something goes wrong. I have a hunch it has something to do with the width of the little grooves in my right thumb, but I'm not 100% certain. Anyhow, the transition from thought to audible symbol is not something i have mastered. It just occured to me that science might very well be able to diagnose me with some kind of illness. maybe mental.

Whatever, science. You're just as bad as religion. I know I'm sane; the length of the sprouting hair around the brim of my nipple says so. Science can only be true if you buy into its system. The system that i would say ninety-eight percent of the human population believes in, but what's always popular isn't always right. We all start with a leather bound book, with a blank page for every day of our lives. It's up to us to decide how we should fill it. Some people choose to fill it with religion, some people choose to fill it with luxuries, or with sexual escapades, or with devotion to their family, or to the system enacted through science. Whatever it is, in the end, we all fill our books with something. That's why traditional happiness is such a pointless and impractical goal to strive towards. It's completely subjective. There is no universal happiness which exists outside of one's own wills and desires. There is no universal anything. People spend a fortune of their time deliberating what their purpose is; what the meaning of life is. In reality, the meaning of life is whatever you make it be. But its alright people, i don't fault you. I too understand the difficult struggle between creating and maintaining your individuality while living within the construct of a social environment. It's easy to be pursuaded into accordance with that which is popular.....

...ADD again. goodnight America. goodmorning England. i wish i could do a better british accent but alas, the incredibly stretchy skin on my right elbow hinders my performance.

This is me writing a paper
Current mood: thirsty

I'm in love. I'm in love with Explosions in the Sky. I'm listening to it in headphones while wearing Jake's big fluffy hat with the ear flaps*. If anyone from Sycamore reads this, tell jake that i have his fluffy hat and that it's all ok. But I'm wearing this big hat and it already blocks out a lot of outside sound and then i have my headphones on top of that and the music is just bouncing around inside my head. It's wonderful. This is my attempt to write a paper. I'm outside just sitting here, paralyzed on the back porch, watching the heat from my lungs hang in the frozen air. The right side of my face is numb and i can feel the vibrations in my ears and in my feet as the L passes by. My legs are sunk down into a mucky comfortability and my head lays harmlessly incapacitated on my shoulder. My head is too heavy to move as metal bars and carefully constructed wire hold it motionless in its current location. My eyes do shift from one random point in space to another but they stare absent of focus. My arms are stone, my feet are stone, the only limb able to break free of this miraculous grip are my dancing fingers. Rise and fall in step to the melodic sounds of a snare drum. This is me writing a paper. Explosions are still handing out discounted mind fuckings. Doyle and I had a conversation about them earlier today.

Doyle said that their sound is epic but the way they record doesn't make it sound like they were trying to make it epic.

I said that whenever i listen to it while im walking down the street, i feel sorry for everyone else because i know whatever they are listening to is inferior than to what I am.

So, i should be writing a paper that is due tomorrow for my night class tomorrow but I'm tired. The digits of the current time have a sum and a product of 6 but only have one digit in the hour slot A.M. I should go to bed. "Should" is a word to remind us that we are human and imperfect. I'm talking to Moen and he just vividly described the chaos that high-dived from his ass. It sounded messy yet satisfying. I told him he should have weighed himself before and after, to support the theory that shitting trumps exercising. Or maybe shitting is exercising. Speaking of exercising, before Chris went to bed we both got on the floor and stretched out. Stretching is fun. Try it. Oh, there will be a show at the House in DeKalb this saturday (Nov. 4th) in which Doyle (my roommate)'s band will be playing. Tell your friends so that they can achieve their life long dream of making it on TRL. Who even hosts TRL now? Wait, who ever said Carson Daily was attractive? Was he supposed to be? Oh, and was Pat Sajek from Wheel of Fortune ever considered attractive or was his role to just be goofy and chipmunk-looking? haha. I think there should be a movie made about Pat Sajek's long long long crush on Vanna White but he was always too dorky and nervous to confess it to her. I'm not sure how that would go or end though. I just like Pat Sajek. I hope that's how he spells his last name.

I went to Vegas. It was fun. The highlight was that I saw Dennis Rodman. On the last day, as we were waiting for the valet people to pull up our rented mini-van we saw Mr. Badboy Dennis Rodman walk up to the valet man. He was big. No one seemed to notice him though. Anyway, Dennis Rodman drives a mini-van! I was looking at his career stats and I realized that he wasn't even that good. He didn't even average a block per game in any season of his career! Sure he averaged 13+ rebounds a game over his career but is that all we put up with him for? Hell, Tyson Chandler averaged more blocks, less turnovers and about the same points, assits and steals and we booed him out of town. ok, I'm going to say it.

Dennis Rodman is and was overrated.

GoodNight

Come to Doyle's show.
